Description

In this book study, a third-grade teacher asked her students to fill-in-the-blank in this sentence: "I wish my teacher knew _____." The results astounded her. Some answers were humorous, others were heartbreaking - all were profoundly moving and enlightening. The results opened her eyes to the need for educators to understand the unique realities their students face in order to create an open, safe and supportive place in the classroom. Schwartz's book tells the story of #IWishMyTeacherKnew, including many students' emotional and insightful responses, and ultimately provides an invaluable guide for teachers, parents, and communities.

"THE BOOK WAS SO APPLICABLE TO EDUCATORS, EASY TO READ, GAVE GREAT TOOLS FOR US TO USE, AND WAS JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF WORK. FURTHERMORE, THE INSTRUCTOR (HEIDI BUDEAU) WAS AWESOME! SHE COMMUNICATED FREQUENTLY WITH US, ANSWERED OUR QUESTIONS AND GAVE TIMELY FEEDBACK, WAS DOWN-TO-EARTH AND LAID BACK ABOUT HOW WE APPROACHED OUR WORK/ASSIGNMENTS, AND REALIZED THAT WE ARE ALL ADULTS. AS SUCH, SHE TREATED US THAT WAY (GAVE US INSTRUCTIONS AND LET US GO)."

"I READY ENJOYED THE BOOK AND SEEING HOW THE CHAPTERS APPLIED TO MY TEACHING."

"THIS BOOK IS AN EYE OPENER AND MAKES YOU REFLECT ON WHAT OUR STUDENTS MAY BE DEALING WITH OUTSIDE OF OUR CLASSROOM. THIS BOOKS GIVES SO MANY TOOLS ON HOW TO HELP STUDENTS FEEL SAFE AND SUCCEED IN THE CLASSROOM."

"THIS BOOK IS VERY WELL LAID OUT AND HAS A LOT OF PASSION BEHIND IT. IT ALLOWS THE READER TO SOAK IN THE CONTENT AND SEE THEIR ENVIRONMENT FROM A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW. BEING ABLE TO HAVE GROUP DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THE CONTENT AND SEEING HOW EVERYBODY ELSE INTERPRETS THE CONTENT CAN HELP AS WELL."

"THE INSTRUCTOR WAS FANTASTIC AND THE MATERIAL IS SO INCREDIBLY WORTHWHILE AND APPLICABLE TO US IN EDUCATION."
