Description
A Framework for Understanding Poverty is a powerful tool for educators to use when teaching children from poverty. Educators, social service and healthcare workers, law enforcement and the judiciary, communities, employers, and individuals from all walks of life are engaged in supporting children and adults to build resources, patterns of learning, and behaviors that will help them exit poverty.
Ruby K. Payne, Ph.D. of Baytown, Texas has been a professional educator since 1972. She has been a secondary-school teacher and department chairperson, an elementary-school principal, a consultant, and a central-office administrator.
Syllabus, Objectives, and Outcomes
Objectives:
- Best practices when working with students and families in poverty.
- Understand generational poverty, middle class and wealth.
- How poverty intersects with race, health, immigration and more.
- Provide a multifaceted, multidisciplinary set of tools and resources applicable across society.

- Form of Technology to access the internet and Microsoft Teams and Teams Classroom
This book study will be set up through Microsoft Teams. All needed materials and links will be provided through Teams along with a class chat to share information with classmates. Outside reading and preparation will be expected by participants; individual reflection will be required. Participants will be asked to share and self-reflect through Microsoft Teams.
