Description
Too often, CTE gets reduced to a checklist of compliance requirements. This asynchronous book study, built around CTE Reimagined by Kristy Volesky and Jeff Frost, invites CTE educators and leaders to look at their own programs with fresh eyes. Across five modules, participants take an honest snapshot of their program, map the path students take through it, use data to find out who is missing, design a connection that breaks down a silo, and finish with a one-year Program Blueprint they can put to work right away. Designed for CTE teachers, coordinators, counselors, and administrators in any state. Works for individuals or for an entire CTE staff learning together. Participants must purchase their own copy of the book. Available on Amazon.
Syllabus, Objectives, and Outcomes
Objectives:
Participants will:
- Evaluate their CTE program against the ecosystem elements described in the text, supporting each rating with specific evidence. (Checkpoint 1)
- Map the pathway students take through their program from first exposure to postsecondary transition, and identify at least one gap or dead end. (Checkpoint 2)
- Analyze group-level enrollment data to identify underrepresented student populations and propose a partnership strategy to address one gap. (Checkpoint 3)
- Design a learning experience that connects their program with a core academic teacher, another grade level or institution, or a community partner. (Checkpoint 4)
- Develop a one-year program action plan that synthesizes course findings into specific, measurable actions. (Final Project)
- Connect key concepts from the text to their professional practice through written discussion and peer feedback. (Discussions 1-5)
Required Student Resources:
- A personal copy of CTE Reimagined (paperback or Kindle)
- A Google account to access Google Classroom and course templates
- A computer or device with reliable internet access
- Access to group-level enrollment data for your program and school (needed for Checkpoint 3; sources may include your student information system, CTE director, counselor, or Perkins data). No student-identifiable data is required or permitted.
