Joy Lab: Joy-Fueled Problem-Solving

This workshop is open to all NDSU employees who are interested in learning strategies for problem-solving through positivity practices. Darcy Bakkegard, our facilitator, is a local and renowned K-12 teacher who has built a program around the science of joy and how we can actively practice joy and use a positive framework to reach goals. 

You may attend this training as an individual or with your department/team/group. We encourage you to contact melissa.lamp@ndsu.edu if you would like a table reserved for your group at the event.

Session Agenda

First Hour. The Why's and How's of Joy-Fueled Problem Solving

● Learn why joy is vital to thriving, at home and at work;

● Explore strategies and adjustments they can make to increase their joy and reduce burnout;

● Engage in personal reflection, small group discussion, and whole group sharing;

● Outline action steps to increase joy and reduce/address a frustration.

Second Hour. Choose Your Own Adventure: Turning Problems into Possibilities

● Celebrate team JOYS;

● Brainstorm possibilities: challenges, frustrations, upcoming to-dos/projects;

● Filter their possibilities and identify ONE action item;

● Utilize Design Thinking strategies to analyze and break down the possibility;

● Design a solution: Outline action steps.
