Description

This workshop will cover how to improve the accessibility of documents including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and Adobe PDF files. We will focus on headings, image descriptions (alt text), formatting tables, embedding links,text reading order, and PDF files. You may bring files with you or work on files we’ll have available for this workshop.

Audience: Staff, faculty, instructors, and students

Learning Goal: This hands-on workshop presents concrete tips and strategies anyone can use to make different types of digital content more accessible for all users.

After briefly discussing why this is important, we’ll cover ways to check for issues and improve the accessibility of Microsoft Word Documents, PowerPoint presentations, and PDF files. You may bring files with you or work on files we’ll have available for this workshop.

Learning Objectives: 

• Identify accessibility issues 

• Describe how these issues can affect users 

• Use built-in accessibility checker in Microsoft and Blackboard (Ally) 

• Create a Word and PowerPoint document that is accessible to all students 

Prerequisites: Participants should have a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
