Description
This workshop provides an overview of the essential standards of a diagnostic review, team-building skills, and the process for reviewing evidence and making recommendations while serving as a member of a Diagnostic Review Team. You must be assigned to a Diagnostic Review Team through the Cognia ND Operations Office prior to registering for this course.
Syllabus, Objectives, and Outcomes
Objectives:
You will:
- Understand the Cognia Accreditation Model for school improvement and accreditation.
- Have the ability to analyze data in relation to the Cognia Standards.
- Be able to develop the knowledge and skills to collaborate as a QAR team member.
- Reflect on educational practices that relate to their own professional educational experience.
Topical Outline:
- Cognia Team Member Online Training = 4 hrs.
- Cognia eleot™ Observation Online Training = 4 hrs.
- External Review Day 1: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. = 8 hrs.
- External Review Day 2: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. = 8 hrs.
- Preparations and Deliberations for two-day External Reviews = 8 hrs.
The major components of the course will include the following topics:
Training: Diagnostic Review Team Member Training
- The Diagnostic Review Team Member and eleot training provides an overview of the process and prepares participants for the Cognia Diagnostic Review Team visit.
Interviewing and Gathering Evidence:
- Team members engage in interviewing a broad range of district stakeholders, including personnel, students, parents, school board members, and community leaders. Data gathered from interviews, observations, and artifacts are aligned to the essential standards.
Data Review
- The review team identifies key themes by collecting, synthesizing, and analyzing evidence from the institution. Evidence sources include student performance data, observation data, stakeholder perception data, interview data, and documents and artifacts.
Preparing and Communicating the Findings
- The diagnostic team engages in professional dialogue to develop a report that reflects the extent to which the school meets the standards. The team produces a written report addressing each standard, along with overall commendations and recommendations for the district.
