Description
Word ownership is an essential element for content learning. This course will explore research-based best practices for supporting students in the acquisition of vocabulary needed to be successful learners in grades 4-12 across all content areas. You will leave this class with a deeper understanding of how to identify instructional vocabulary, how to teach it for effective learning, and a toolbox of resources and activities to optimize learning in your classroom.
Syllabus, Objectives, and Outcomes
Educators will:
- Apply key concepts and ideas about vocabulary instruction.
- Identify and clarify instructional vocabulary.
- Determine best practices for vocabulary acquisition in their classroom.
- Identify activites for teaching instructional vocabulary.
- Consider and select techniques for determining word ownership.
