Description
The State Historical Society of North Dakota’s 2025 Summer Teacher Institute, "Frontier to Frontlines: North Dakota's Military Legacy” is set for July 21-24 in Cooperstown, North Dakota. To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and Navy, the workshop will bring together the State Historical Society of North Dakota at the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile Historic Site, the Griggs County Historical Society, and Griggs County Central Schools. Together, we aim to educate teachers about the vital contributions of North Dakota and its residents to state and national defense. The workshop will cover the 1860s to the 1980s and follow various themes through historic eras. This workshop features lectures and hands-on opportunities to assist educators of students in grades 4-12.
Syllabus, Objectives, and Outcomes
Objectives:
The participants will:
- have increased knowledge and confidence to teach North Dakota Studies around the themes of alliance and conflict.
- be able to identify several significant people from North Dakota and their major contributions to the defense of the state and nation.
- have an increased knowledge of civilian's role in the defense of the nation.
- be introduced to additional resources for teaching this content provided by the State Historical Society of North Dakota.
- be able to walk away with lessons in hand, ready to teach at least one topic in ND Studies.
Required Materials:
None, all materials will be provided by the State Historical Society of North Dakota during the workshop.
