Description

Planning and carrying out effective supervision techniques using co-teaching strategies with student teachers for all grade levels.  This course is designed to develop the necessary base of knowledge in clinical supervision and to assist teachers in drawing on their own experiences for further insights on effective supervision.  In addition, teachers who serve as cooperating teachers must develop basic comprehensions about the developmental needs of student teachers, planning for the student teacher’s role and responsibilities, the field of teacher education, and the specific requirements set out by the state of North Dakota for student teachers and cooperating teachers.

Syllabus, Objectives, and Outcomes

OBJECTIVES:

The educators will:

  1. Review existing requirements for Supervisors/Cooperating Teachers.
  2. Identify roles and responsibilities of cooperating teachers.
  3. Create a timeline for the student teacher from the beginning of the experience, during the first few days and throughout the semester.
  4. Identify effective co-teaching stategies.
  5. Examine potential problems a student teacher may encounter during the semester.
  6. Create your own Student Teaching handbook with a variety of helpful resources.

TOPICAL OUTLINE:

Each module will require approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. to complete.
