Description

The course will introduce empathy and explore mindfulness and meditation as tools to develop self-empathy. Learners will explore the relevance and importance of self-empathy for educators, explore barriers and obstacles to self-compassion and empathy, and be introduced to mindfulness and meditation as a tool to foster and develop self-empathy. Over six weeks, learners will develop a personal mindfulness practice, read and reflect on self-empathy practices with a community of learners, and make connections between self-empathy and working in education through discussion boards and small-group conversations.

Objectives:

Students will be able to:

  1. define empathy and self-empathy in education contexts.
  2. identify barriers and obstacles to self-empathy.
  3. develop or foster a meditation and mindfulness practice.
