Description

This course is designed to help educators develop resilient learners in the classroom, through trauma sensitive lens. Educators will explore why student may struggle with behaviors impeding ability to learn, approaches to help build relationships, establish strategies to improve classroom management and develop wellness and self-care routines.

Syllabus, Objectives, and Outcomes

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Understand the prevalence of trauma and impact of ACEs in the classroom.
  2. Become more aware of how the educator’s tone, demeanor, approach, behaviors, and presence affect how students perform in the classroom.
  3. Reflect on the power of relationships, the need for control, and complexity of the school setting.
  4. Understand how our beliefs can guide our practice and outcomes.
  5. Practice grace, praise, and self- care.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this course is to allow educators to gain more information and insight on the effect of trauma on learning and teaching. By understanding how trauma impacts students, and practicing a trauma informed approach, educators can play a crucial role in mitigating both the short- and long-term effects of trauma; ultimately improving the child’s overall life trajectory and resiliency.
