Description
K-12 Special Education and Regular Education teachers will have an opportunity to broaden your understanding of special education and learn best practices that are necessary to ensure an effective education. Coursework will focus on: *Purpose and Promise of Special Education, *Planning and Providing Special Education Services, and *Collaboration. Topics include: legal requirements (federal and MN), terminology, IEP meeting process, evaluation process, Universal Design for Learning, collaboration with parents, regular education teachers, and service providers, and engaging classroom resources for serving students with disabilities. Guest speakers include: a special education coordinator and a parent of two students on the Autism Spectrum.

Objectives:
- Recognize the importance of your work within the school system.
- Understand how the laws, terminology, and requirements intertwine within a successful program.
- Reflect on your own teaching and best practices through papers and discussion boards.
- Explore teaching and learning resources that engage learners of all needs.
