This course explores the principles and practices of disciplinary literacy and engages educators in considering effective ways to make content learning accessible to learners.

Syllabus, Objectives, and Outcomes

Learners will:

• describe basic writing processes as they relate to disciplinary literacy and research-based practices.
• explain how writing can be used to promote and assess disciplinary learning.
• explain how to apply the 7 principles of effective writing instruction in their classrooms.
• explain how to apply the writing process in ways that promote critical thinking and disciplinary learning.
• determine text structure and other text features appropriate for their discipline.
• apply writing to learn techniques appropriate for their discipline.
