Description

This Professional Development opportunity to lead teachers to explore different time periods of the African American experience in our history through dialogue using primary sources. Teachers will have the opportunity to model pedagogy activities using these documents and have the opportunity to be a part of 3 scholar led sessions on these topics. Teachers will read background information and participate in all activities and scholar sessions throughout the day.

Syllabus, Objectives, and Outcomes

Objectives:

Teachers will:

  • discuss and participate in pedagogy activities to model activities they can use with their students in the classroom to better understand and analyze primary documents.
  • analyze primary document from colonial America to the 20th century covering the African American Experience and discussing the impact of these documents on American history.
  • analyze and discuss how primary documents help students discuss contentious topics today by grounding the conversations in the founding principles.
