Description
How do teachers implement standards-based learning with evidence-based reporting in science? Teachers will explore how the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Science Engineering Practices are used for Standards-Based Instruction and Evidence-Based Reporting. Secondary educators will expand their knowledge of SBI and EBR using SEP to drive instruction and assessments. This course presents an opportunity for educators to expand their knowledge of NGSS, SEPs, and assessment in their classrooms.
Syllabus, Objectives, and Outcomes
Objectives:
- Educators will deepen their understanding of NGSS science and engineering practices (SEPs).
- Educators will explore and demonstrate understanding of all eight SEPs.
- Educators will learn how to read and understand the proficiency scales for the SEPs.
- Educators will learn how to integrate science proficiency scales with success criteria into their assessments and curricula, to enhance the quality and reliability of student evaluations.
- Educators will engage in detailed analysis of NGSS standards, identifying opportunities to translate these standards and SEPs into proficiency, scales, and success criteria.
- Educators will create unit alignment of practice, formative, and summative assessments based on NGSS, SEPs, proficiency scales, and success criteria.
