Description
This all day event showcases four different speakers presenting topics related, but not limited to, attachment in the family system, helping children cope with stress and build resiliency, how to have crucial conversations with children's caregivers, and childhood anxiety. These topics will help parents and caregivers expand knowledge and skills related to child abuse prevention. This conference is supported through grants administered by PCAND in partnership with funding from North Dakota Health and Human Services. This event is free and open to the public.
Syllabus, Objectives, and Outcomes
Objectives:
By the end of the conference, early childhood professionals will:
- Explore the basics of family systems and how the impact of these systems has on individuals and relationships.
- Examine attachment styles, the role attachment plays in shaping relationships within families, how these attachment styles set a blueprint for future relationships, and how culture may influence our understanding of attachment.

Explore the concept of fixed versus growth mindset in regards to it’s significance in shaping views about families and parent/caregiver-child relationships.
- Learn tips and tools to use during crucial conversations to work towards a peaceful resolution.
- Explore childhood anxiety; learn signs, myths, and helpful strategies to teach coping skills.
- Explore what happens in a child's brain and body when they become stressed.
- Learn stress warning signs and strategies for how to respond.
