The class is comprised of acquiring information from a textbook, and websites with articles and videos.

Description

Through the text, websites and videos we discover the need to help children with dyslexia understand reading. Dyslexia and reading difficulties are intertwined. Information on reading from Louisa K. Moats and Mark Seidenberg shed light on helping a dyslexic child become a reader. 

Syllabus, Objectives, and Outcomes

Objectives/Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

• identify characteristics of dyslexia
• develop skills for renewing the dyslexic student’s confidence and love of learning.
• learn about building and identifying dyslexic student’s strength
• become aware of the best practices, accommodations and latest technologies in helping dyslexic students in the learning and reading process.

The following assignments and projects are required for this course = 30 hrs.  This course is self-paced however feel free to email the instructor anytime during the course if you have any questions or concerns.

• Read text including prologue (293 pages)
• Watch videos and read articles on web
• Write reflections (5) (1 page)
• Research articles reviews from the Internet (2) - (write a half page review)
• Essay - (overall what you have interacted with) (1 – 2 pages)

Class assignments and activities are designed to enhance students’ education and develop their skills in research, critical analysis, and academic writing.
